Gamebryo LightSpeed Integration
Using Beast with Gamebryo LightSpeed
The Beast LightSpeed integration allows artists to create high-quality global illumination lightmaps directly from within the game editor. Artists automatically get natural effects such as color bounces, realistic nuances in the shadows and soft shadows from the light sources, while still having great control over the end result.
The Gamebryo integration has been developed by Illuminate Labs working closely together with Emergent. Together with the global illumination package available in Gamebryo, the integration allows you to use Beast directly without the need to write your own integration.
Features:
- Global illumination: Get full global illumination light maps and radiosity normal maps with all the bells and whistles. Get a better looking game with less work - let your artists concentrate on what look they want, rather than on how to achieve it!
- Easy integration: Simply install the Beast package and you are good to go! There is no need to create your own integration.
- Run-time support: The global illumination package from Emergent allows you to use the results from Beast directly, without having to roll your own light map support. The integration supports baking to texture or vertex colors, using either regular lightmaps or radiosity normal maps.
- Full control and easy customization: Artists have full control over the end result, with access to Beast-specific settings and properties directly within Toolbench through the use of entity models. Full source code for the integration is available, allowing for customization to suit your particular needs. Set up presets for quality settings as you see fit or use the ones provided in the package.
Video tutorials
Emergent has created a video tutorial on how to set up materials to use light maps in Gamebryo (this is for Gamebryo 2.6 but is still valid):
Using the Light Map Material in Your Art Tool
Download the integration
To get access to the latest Beast LightSpeed Integration, you need to set up a Beast evaluation account. (Make sure you write Gamebryo Lightspeed 3.1 as the game engine version, as there are separate packages for earlier versions)
Earlier versions of the integration
The older Beast integrations are available for download from the support forums for Gamebryo (http://pulse.emergent.net). Any customer wanting to use Beast together with Gamebryo 2.x are recommended to create an integration using the Beast API available from Illuminate Labs in order to get the best possible results. The old integration may serve as an example of how to iterate over content in Gamebryo 2.6, but should not be used for light map generation. Please contact support for more information.
